Patrick STEWARTStar Trek and X-Men star Sir Patrick Stewart has died aged 86 following a brief battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

It was confirmed that the acting legend died surrounded by his wife, Sunny, at his home in Los Angeles, following a "brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia".

His longtime spokesperson Kelly Bush Novak added: "He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all. We will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace."

Our thoughts are with Sir Patrick's family and friends at this sad time. We invite you to pay tribute to Sir Patrick Stewart below.

Your Captain Picard has guided my morality throughout life. I am both deeply saddened by your passing and delighted that we were all able to witness your talent. I have learnt so much from you and I will make it so.
