Mum,
So many wonderful memories of the amazing mum-in-law you were. Being adopted often meant belonging wasn't always easy. You welcomed me into your family, and I can honestly say I have always felt loved, at home and able to be me as in no other setting. At the worst time of my life, when others abandoned me, you along with dad embraced me and nutured Christine and I with love. You have been a mum to me. You have been an amazing grandmother to my children. You were always around for them — ready to help, ready to spend time, ready to make them feel loved — but you never interfered or made things difficult. You understood boundaries instinctively, and your presence was a gift. So many happy times around the house in Swavesey, overnight stays, Sunday teas and roast dinners, fireworks when I nearly burned the house down (!), all the grandchildren playing in the garden, on the swing seat, Chilli Con Carne, holidays together. Life has been rich in all the good things - because of who you were. When I was able to say how much I loved you for the last time and, 'thankyou', you replied in typical humility, 'I tried my best.' You did more than that mum - you aced it! I'll never forget you, nor will I ever stop loving you. See you in the morning. Xxxx
