Milburn will be sadly missed by his old muckers at the House of Commons, and by all the MPs who knew him. While he was a stickler for procedure, and doing things properly- quite right too- he was kindly, funny and gave tone to his role and that of his Doorkeeper team. He was always ready for a gossip if he knew you could keep confidences, and gave the place that special quality which you cannot invent artifically, but which grows out of character- which he had in abundance.
I am sure the hearts of many MPs have gone out to Christine and family, as your lives were so much a part of him as he worked with us.
Thank you dear friend- St Peter will have need of your experience!
