Dear Glenys,
I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of your beautiful mum, Joan. I have so many happy memories of her, and of your dad Charles, from when we were young friends — always in and out of each other’s houses, getting up to mischief like a pair of tomboys. I can still remember trying to play the trumpet and only managing to hurt my cheeks.
As we got older, we lost touch, only seeing each other now and again if we bumped into one another when you were visiting from London. But whenever I saw your mum out and about — always doing her shopping and often other people’s too — we would stop for a chat and a laugh. We both always asked after our families, and how you were getting on with your career and then the children.
One memory that has stayed with me is when I confided in your mum that Graham and I were getting married on the 24th of December 1996. We hadn’t told any of the family and weren’t planning to until Christmas Day. She kept that secret, only sharing it with you, and the two of you sent us a lovely wedding card afterwards. When I told my own mum that I had confided in Joan Taylor, she said, “That’s Joan for you — such a lovely lady.” And she truly was.
She will be sadly missed.
Sending you all my love at this difficult time,
