DorothyTRUEMANDorothy Trueman Passed away peacefully on Monday, 20th November, 2023. Born in 1939 in Longsight, Manchester, to Matthew and Margaret Doyle, Dorothy was the youngest of nine children. Her siblings were David, Jane, May, Margaret, Raymond, Elsie, Veronica, and Frank. After leaving school, Dorothy worked as a secretary in the offices of Lomas & Baynes on Canal Street in Manchester until she married Denis Baynes in 1959. The couple-"Dot and Den," as they were called-moved to Burford Close in Wilmslow, and then to Moss Lane in Alderley Edge, where they raised three children: David, Paul, and Karen. In 1980, after twenty-one years of marriage, Denis passed away, leaving Dorothy a widow. In 1983, Dorothy married Geoffrey Trueman. The couple lived for some time together in Gawsworth before moving to Macclesfield, where they lived separately but still lovingly. During this period, Dorothy worked in a variety of settings, including the Citizens' Advice Bureau, Astrazeneca, and Macclesfield Hospital, where she helped to open a canteen as a service to patients and visitors. Like her first marriage, Dorothy's second marriage lasted twenty-one years, ending when Geoffrey died suddenly in 2003, leaving Dorothy again a widow. In 2006, Dorothy returned to Wilmslow to live. Her flat at Chapel Court on Hawthorn Street was just a mile from the home she and Denis had made for themselves when first they were married. During the seventeen years she lived at Chapel Court, Dorothy made many friends. She specially loved her friend Theresa Garland, who predeceased Dorothy by about three years. Dorothy loved to go shopping with Theresa and other friends, or just on her own. She may have single-handedly kept Marks & Spencer's retail stores in Cheshire afloat financially while other shoppers were flocking to online stores. Dorothy also loved to eat out in the many restaurants of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge. Aside from her love for her children, Dorothy's special love was for animals. She had many cats and several dogs over the course of her life. She continued to tell funny, and always very loving, stories about each one of them long after they were gone. As Dorothy became increasingly infirm with age, she received kind assistance from the staff of Alice Chilton In-Home Care Services (with special kindness shown to her by Clare Hudson) and also from several of her neighbours at Chapel Court (especially from Kenneth Hayter, who performed many valuable services for her). Dorothy was taken care of in the last three months of her life by the wonderful staff of the Hazelmere House Care Home in Wilmslow. Dorothy shone an unusually bright light on everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all, but especially by her three loving children. Dorothy's funeral services will be held on the 11th of December at the Macclesfield Methodist Church at 2:00pm and then at the Macclesfield Crematorium at 2:45pm. Donations of any amount to the East Cheshire NHS Trust Charitable Fund (www.justgiving.com/echeshirenhscharitablefund) in lieu of flowers will be appreciated.
