GillianWALKERDecember 30th 1938 - April 15th 2023 Gillian Walker died peacefully at home in the arms of her youngest son on Saturday April 15th at the age of 84. She leaves behind her sister, five children, thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Born in Shropshire in 1938, Gillian led a long and full life that began in Shrewsbury. As a young woman she worked for the NatWest Bank, an experience which served her well when later she managed the successful family chiropractic clinic. She ran the clinic with her husband of 60 years, George, who died in 2021. They had met in her early teens through the Church and would later marry in 1961. George and Gill began their married life running a dairy farm in Bridgenorth, where their first two sons, Keith & David were born. They went on to pursue an exciting new chapter in their life by moving to Davenport, Iowa USA where Gill supported George in his studies to become a chiropractor. With two young children, Gill turned her hand to several jobs to support their growing family. It was at this time their first daughter Robyn was born. The family returned to England in 1967 settling in Elburton, Plymouth where the Chiropractic clinic was established. In 1975 & 1977 Gill & George had two more children, Adrian and Rachel - Gill now had her hands full with five children whilst still running the business side of the clinic. As an active member of the church, Gill provided an invaluable service to children and young people through her love of music. This passion started at a very young age as Gill played the church organ from 11 years old. She ran the music at the Sunday School for St Matthew's Church, Elburton, as well as many youth clubs. Gill became the pianist for the Plymouth Praisemakers in the late 80's and eventually took on the role of Musical Director. Here, as well as provided exciting opportunities for the choir touring all over the UK and Sweden, she provided a pastoral and nurturing environment for the Praisemaker community. Gill was a loving Granny to her many grandchildren and had a love of dogs, sunshine, the moors and the sea. She enjoyed many wonderful holidays in Cornwall with her ever growing family. She will be so very sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The funeral will be held at St Matthew's Church, Elburton at 3pm on Friday 12th May 2023 and afterwards at the Bedford Hotel, Tavistock to celebrate her life. May we request no flowers but all donations for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution RNLI would be gratefully received.
