Hazel JeanetteWALLEYIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hazel Jeanette Walley, who peacefully slipped away at Huntingdon Court, Loughborough, on 25 August 2026, aged 93 years.

Hazel was born and raised in Shepshed, a town that remained close to her heart throughout her life. In later years, she moved to Huntingdon Court when she became unable to manage independently, where she was cared for with kindness and compassion.

Beloved wife of the late John Eric Walley, who sadly passed away in 2013, Hazel showed remarkable strength and independence in the years that followed. She was a devoted mother to Michael and Jeanette, a much-loved Grandma and a treasured Great-Grandma.

Faith played an important role in Hazel's life. A devoted Christian, she attended church whenever she was able and found great comfort in her beliefs. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and her family take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace.

Hazel enjoyed many hobbies and interests throughout her life. She loved knitting, dancing, and exploring a wide variety of cuisines. She was particularly fond of holidays and cherished many happy memories in Skegness, as well as trips to Norfolk and the Lake District, places she loved to visit time and time again.

In her younger years, Hazel was an enthusiastic tennis player and enjoyed an active lifestyle. She also had a wonderful sense of humour and could often be heard laughing heartily while watching her favourite television programmes, Last of the Summer Wine and Keeping Up Appearances.

Hazel had a special fondness for owls, particularly barn owls, and took great pleasure in seeing daffodils bloom each spring, a sure sign that warmer days were on their way. Despite her adventurous spirit in many aspects of life, she was never particularly fond of travelling by car and remained a nervous passenger throughout the years.

Hazel will be remembered for her warmth, faith, resilience, and the love she shared with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Hazel's funeral service will take place at St Botolph's Church, Shepshed, at 10:00am on Monday 14 September 2026, followed by interment at Shepshed Cemetery.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hazel's life.

Family flowers only, please. Donations in Hazel's memory are gratefully received in support of LOROS and Parkinson's UK, two charities that were very close to her heart.

"Like the daffodils she loved so much, Hazel brought warmth, brightness, and joy to those around her. Though she is no longer with us, her love and memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of her family and friends."
