EvelynWALSHEBorn in Bridgwater, Somerset, Jill was a long-standing resident of Oakwood, Derby, having previously lived in Matlock. Wherever she made her home, she was a deeply respected member of both her community and her church, where her Christian faith was the foundation of her life.

Jill enjoyed a varied and fulfilling career, including roles within insurance, with the Arkwright Society, and in Local Government in both Matlock and Derby. She took great pride in her work, particularly within the Policy Units, where her meticulous attention to detail and natural investigative ability, underpinned by a strong interest in local and family history, ensured she consistently delivered an exceptional standard of service.

A generous and compassionate individual, Jill devoted time to charitable causes, including collecting for DAB, and served as a qualified member of St John Ambulance. She had a great love of nature and animals, and her curiosity led her to travel widely with her daughters. Principled and inquisitive, she was always in search of truth and knowledge. She greatly valued education and continued to develop new skills throughout her life, including learning to play the piano. Always ahead of her time, Jill had a quiet way of setting trends rather than following them.

She will be dearly missed by her loving family, including her twin sister and her two daughters.

Jill's funeral service will be held at St Mary's Church, Crich on Tuesday 14th July 2026 at 11:00am followed by a burial in Crich Cemetery.

Donations made in lieu can be sent to Alzheimer's Society & Dementia Palliative Care Services, Derby.

Family request attendees to wear a "splash of blue in Jill's memory"

There are simply not enough superlatives to describe Evelyn—known to me as Mrs Walshe—or Jill, as many others knew her, and, above all, Liz's wonderful mum.

She had the most amazing smile, bright, sparkling eyes, and a beautiful voice. She was knowledgeable, eloquent, and endlessly interesting. Her Christian faith was immense, and she was always willing to engage in conversations about religion and the life of the Church. She welcomed discussion, respected the opinions of others, and genuinely enjoyed the exchange of ideas.

She was an absolute joy to spend time with—to listen to, to hear her delightful voice, and to share in her remarkable intellect. It was clear that Liz had embraced so much of what her mum had taught her, including her tenacity, her attention to detail, and her determination to stand up for those who have no voice in this often unjust world.

The world is undoubtedly a poorer place now that she is no longer with us. Yet she lives on in the hearts, minds, and lives of all those who were fortunate enough to know her. It was an absolute pleasure and an honour to have spent time with her as she journeyed through such a rich and meaningful life.

Rest in peace, with the knowledge that you touched the hearts of so, so many. My love, prayers, and heartfelt condolences go out to your loving family and to all those whom you chose to call family.
