Mr Welford, who always 'brought a smile to everyone's face', died from pneumonia on Sunday October 18 after a long struggle with illness.

His wife, Valerie, and son, Paul, said his death was 'very peaceful with his family around – exactly what he would have wanted'.

Paul Welford said: "He meant so much to those who knew him and always brought a smile to everyone's face with his wind-ups and wisecracks.

"He taught us how to enjoy life and the importance of family and friends.

"Every time we think about him it brightens up our day.

"Thank you to all those who shared great memories with him."

Richard was also grandfather to Ben and Freddy.

Valerie said: "We want to thank everyone so, so much for all the support they have given us over this time.

"It has really shown how people help each other through some hard times."

The family requested donations to the Huntington's Disease Association instead of flowers.
