KennethWHITTAKERMr Kenneth Whittaker, of Schofield Road, Rawtenstall, died at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Monday, September 6, aged 92. After National Service in the Fleet Air Army, Ken joined his father Jack in the family greengrocer and florist business in Bank Street. He worked in and ran the business until retirement in July 1989. He enjoyed travelling, watching football, and cricket. Ken was always busy gardening or doing a DIY project, and in later years he enjoyed caravanning around Britain. Most of all, he loved being with his family. A lifelong member of St Mary’s Church, Rawtenstall, and a great supporter of the Scout group, he was awarded a ‘Thanks Badge’ by the Chief Scout. He leaves his wife Joyce, to whom he was married for 69 years, sons Tony and Peter, daughters-inlaw Karen and Mandy, three grandchildren, Philip, Matthew, and Richard, and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Friday, September 17, at 11am at St Mary’s Church, Rawtenstall, led by Rev Julie Barratt. Family flowers only please; donations if desired to either St Mary’s Church, or Rossendale Hospice. Donations can be made online at www. fredhamer.co.uk (tributes and donations). Funeral director: Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Service, Rawtenstall.
