DorothyWILKESIn loving memory of Dorothy Wilkes (born 21st September 1933), who passed away on Tuesday 18th February.

Dorothy, also known as ‘Dot’ or ‘Dorrie’, leaves behind her loving daughter and son, Lynne and Anthony. She was also the cherished ‘Granny’ of Joe, Emily, Laura, Naomi and Stanley, and Great Granny to Maria, Louis, Luca, Lena and Remy.

To celebrate Dorothy’s life, we would like to invite you to a funeral service, held at Sigley’s Funeral Venue at 2.00pm on Wednesday 19th March, before a burial at St Edward’s Lawn Cemetery. In keeping with her love of nature, we would request that guests wear colourful clothing. Once the service has finished, we will be holding a wake at The Black Lion, Cheddleton.

Please do notify us should you wish to attend.

Auntie Dorothy was one of the kindest ladies we've ever known. She was petite, yet strong, determined, and so courageous. She loved the outdoors and as a child enjoyed rock climbing with her brothers (my Dad). Her most incredible adventure was when she moved a young family to Africa - a place where there was no running water, electricity, or even a phone! There was no going to Boots for nappies or baby food yet she took everything in her stride. When the family returned to England in 1964 I could not wait to meet my new cousins and auntie and uncle. I clearly remember being so disappointed at discovering they were white.

We consider ourselves so lucky that she visited us in New England and will cherish her memories and art that she gave to us. Her kindness and love will never be forgotten; neither will her most wonderful stories she used to tell.
