Colonel TonyWILSON O.B.E TD FRICS(Former Agent to The Sledmere Estate) Passed away peacefully at home on 21st July 2023. Tony, aged 83 Years. Colonel Tony was for many years a leading figure in the Reserves & Cadets world. He joined the Territorial Army in 1958 as a Private Soldier in the 4th Battalion The Green Howards and spent the next twenty-four years moving around Yorkshire with The Yorkshire Volunteers until he ended this period as Commanding Officer 3 YORKS. During his time in the TA he managed to serve in at least one of each of the antecedent Regiment affiliated Companies (GH, PWO and DWR). In 1982 he took up a post at the local TAVRA (later Reserve Forces and Cadet Association). In 1992, he was 'gently' persuaded to join the Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF at Driffield, soon after becoming Commandant, he then became Colonel Cadets at 15 North East Brigade and Honorary Colonel of Cleveland Army Cadet Force. He also served four years as an ACF Advisor to the Territorial Commissioning Board at Chilwell. He later served as Vice-Chairman at RFCA Yorkshire and The Humber with responsibility for Youth and Cadets. In 2007 Colonel Tony marked 49 years of Territorial and Cadet Force service and was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. Tony was also a keen equestrian, both as rider and commentator also a keen model maker. Funeral Service to take place at St. Mary's Church, Sledmere on Friday 11th August 2023 at 12.00 Noon. Flowers are welcome or donations gratefully received will be given to St. Mary's Church, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and The Army Benevolent Fund for which a plate will be provided at the service.
