We are an independent, family run funeral business that is based between Ashbourne and Derby, right next to the A52. Our premises are situated in a large garden area in the village of Brailsford.
W Jones & Son was established by William Jones. We know that the business was up and running in 1864. William was a master wheelwright, carpenter and undertaker. His sons Tom, George, Norman and Walter all worked with him. After William’s death in 1916 Walter then carried on running the business.
Walter’s son, Ray, began working at W Jones & Son in 1945. Walter died in 1959 leaving Ray to run the business as he still does today. For many years Ray’s wife Beryl worked alongside him. Their daughter Karen joined them after leaving school and is now a partner in the business. She qualified and became a member of The British Institute of Embalmers and holds the National Association of Funeral Directors Diploma in Funeral Directing.
Her husband John Caney came to work at W Jones & Son in 1996, after working elsewhere in the funeral business from leaving school. As a family run firm, we understand the value of offering a friendly and caring service to our clients, with all aspects of funeral planning taken care of by our experienced and helpful team.
