From 5th-11th May 2025, communities across the UK are uniting for Dying Matters Awareness Week, an initiative led by Hospice UK. This year’s theme ‘The Culture of Dying Matters’ invites us to explore how our backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences shape our conversations and practices around death, dying, and grief.

Death is a universal experience, yet the ways we approach it are deeply influenced by cultural and personal factors. In the UK, diverse communities observe various traditions and rituals when it comes to end-of-life care and mourning. Despite these differences, the emotions associated with loss such as grief, love, and remembrance are shared across cultures. Recognising this commonality can foster empathy and open dialogues about death and dying.

How Can I Take Part in Dying Matters Awareness Week 2025?
