2021: Our Year in Review

Last year we looked back on 2020 with the hope we would never see another like it; 2021 didn't end up being all that different. But it wasn't all doom and gloom. Restrictions on the number of people attending funerals were gradually removed and for a while in summer things felt 'normal'.

Whilst the year ended with headlines about covid there was still lots to be thankful for with some great things achieved in 2021, today we are going to spend a brief moment looking back so that we may prepare for the year ahead.

Funeral notices have now helped families raise over £2 million for hundreds of charities in memory of their loved ones - in 2021 alone we raised £1.5 million making it our most successful year to date.

Thank you for your support. Choosing to include online donations in a notice helps ensure the maximum is raised in memory of loved ones as well as allowing charities to benefit from Gift Aid, worth an extra 25% on top of the donated amount.

2021 saw us take the bold step of changing the style of our printed Funeral Notices in all 100 of our newspapers, so that they now have the same smart, fresh look across every single publication. Newspaper notices are a very traditional medium and while we realise the growing importance of digital notices, it's important to us that our printed pages received the much needed face-lift that they deserve.

Notices were shared via social media, email or messaging apps over 133,000 times.

2022 might well end up being another year dominated by covid, though if the last years have taught us anything it's that we are resilient and will take whatever comes our way in the best way we can - looking for the positives no matter the obstacles. We really hope that lock-downs and restrictions on funerals eventually become a thing of the past and we can look forward to better times.
